Kaleidoscopic, this glorious vintage is terroir translucent, transporting you to the vineyard with its signature aromas of dried sage, Eucalyptus olida (aka Strawberry Gum), wild mint, wattleseed, nutmeg and tinder. ![]() Crafted by the Henschke family for over 60 years now, Mount Edelstone is arguably the longest consecutively-produced, single-vineyard wine in Australia. First bottled as a single-vineyard wine in 1952 by fourth-generation Cyril Henschke by the time Cyril purchased the vineyard from Colin Angas in 1974, Mount Edelstone was already well entrenched as one of Australia’s greatest shiraz wines. ![]() The ancient 500-million-year-old geology in the vineyard has given rise to soils that are deep red-brown clay-loam to clay, resulting in low yields from the dry-grown, ungrafted centenarian vines. Unusual for its time, the vineyard was planted solely to shiraz. The Mount Edelstone vineyard was planted in 1912 by Ronald Angas, a descendant of George Fife Angas who founded The South Australian Company and played a significant part in the formation and establishment of South Australia. The beautiful and historic name Mount Edelstone is a translation from the German Edelstein meaning ‘gemstone’, a reference to small yellow opals once found in the area. The finish is beautifully balanced, with long, velvety tannins and excellent depth. The palate is complex and textured with rich and concentrated flavours of mulberry, blackberry and Satsuma plum, layered with sage, black pepper and star anise. Fragrant, spicy aromas of black pepper, sage, bay leaf and anise are interwoven with vibrant Satsuma plum, blackberry and blueberry, and gentle tarragon and cedar notes. Henschke Mount Edelstone is made from 100 percent Shiraz.ĭeep crimson with violet hues. The wine is bottled and refined for 10-12 months. After malolattic fermentation the wine stay for 12 months in French barrels, 50% new oak and 50% 2 years after this period the barrels are blended in big barrels of 2500 liters for 18 months. The fermentation is around 33-34☌ with 15-17 days of maceration malolactic fermentation took place spontaneously in stainless steel vats. Torriglione grape are harvested very ripe with a meticulous selection the fermentation took place in stainless steel vats with temperature controlled. Green harvest in two different times with reduction of grapes with a production per hectare around 5500 kg. On the palate Henry’s Blend is soft and supple, a seamless integration of ripe fruit, French oak and fine-grained tannins. A tribute to the family patriarch, Henry Trione, this deep red wine is an artful blend of the five classic Bordeaux varieties: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec.
